WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Husky javelin throwers with strong performances over the weekend...

In San Diego, Washington's Roan Allen (UW Athletics photo) threw the third farthest distance in school history Saturday to win the javelin at the Triton Invitational, hosted by the University of San Diego.

Allen was part of a small group of Husky throwers competing, as the rest of the Husky squad had the weekend off.

Allen, a former NAIA national runner-up while at the University of British Columbia, opened his Husky career with a solid mark of 212-5 (64.75m) two weeks ago at the Raleigh Relays, but he put three throws well past that today. His second attempt flew to 238-3 (72.63), and third round throw went 224-10 (68.53). But his fifth throw sailed to the new PR distance, landing at 246-2 (75.04m).

In the process, he defeated multi-time Mexican national champion David Carreon, who threw a best of 243-2 (74.13m).

The Huskies' Zach Annanie was fifth at 209-5 (63.84m).

In the women's shot put, indoor school record-holder MaKayla Kelby moved closer towards the outdoor record with a new outdoor shot put best of 54-1.25 (16.49m), as Swedish Olympian Fanny Roos won at 62-3.75 (18.99m).

The women's javelin saw sophomore Kathleen Horn take the victory at 154-0 (46.95m), while sophomore Natalie Holmer had a season-best 144-10 (44.16m) in third, with Tanya Simora throwing 125-0 (38.10m) in sixth.

The day began with sophomore Jayden White extending his hammer season-best to 215-9 (65.76m) for third-place and the top mark by a collegian, while senior Connor Jost went 199-0 (60.66m) for a season-best in fifth. 2019 Pan Am bronze medalist Sean Donnelly won with a throw of 246-7 (75.17m).

In Tacoma, UW freshman Jack Olsen, who is currently redshirting, had the top mark of the day at the Pacific Lutheran Invitational Saturday.

Olsen, competing unattached, won the javelin with a toss of 216-8 (66.06m), beating Western Washington's Jaydon Tryon by almost 16 meters (165-4/50.40m).

Overall, Western Washington dominated the competition on the day, with the Vikings taking home ten wins. Saint Martin's got victories from both 4 x 400 meter relay teams, and four individuals. The Seattle Pacific Falcons collected five wins Saturday.
