WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Saint Martin's women's squad third at Ash Creek Collegiate Invitational...
Only one of Washington's Division II schools ended up competing over the weekend, and it was the Saint Martin's Saints, who opened their season Friday afternoon at the Ash Creek Collegiate Invitational hosted by Western Oregon University.
Cassidy Walchak-Sloan led the way in the women's 5k, finishing fourth overall in a time of 17:59.
Freshman Alauna Carstens was fifth in 18:06, followed by Sara Sabra in 11th at 18:25.
Alisha Saucedo was 21st in 19:14, and Naomi Hartley rounded out SMU's scorers in 33rd at 20:07.
The Saints finished third with 70 points, behind Oregon State's 28 points, and GNAC pre-season favorite Simon Fraser's 61 points.
In the men's 6k, the top finisher for the Saints was Kainalu Pagente, who was 14th at 18:27. He was followed by Isaac Cortes in 21st at 18:39, with Michael Harwell two spots behind in 18:48.
Lance Slichko was 29th in 18:57, and Eli Dale was their final scorer in 35th at 19:13.
Saint Martin's was fourth with 115 points, as Simon Fraser took the team title by a 37-38 count over the University of Portland. Western Oregon was third with 63 points.

Seattle Pacific was originally scheduled to race Saturday at the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational in Tacoma, but after racing two consecutive weekends, the Falcons withdrew from the meet.
