SPRINGFIELD, Oregon--
Washington State's Brian Barsaiya (photo courtesy WSU Athletics) finished third at the Bill Dellinger Invitational Friday morning at the Pine Ridge Golf Club to lead the Cougars to a fifth place finish.

Barsaiya took the lead from the get-go, and at one point, held a 17-second lead through the half way point of the 8-k race.

However, the field whittled his lead, and Oregon's Aaron Bienenfeld caught him to take the victory in 23:42, with Portland redshirt Matt Strangio, competing unattached, finishing second in 23:46, just ahead of Barsaiya, who had the same time.

Gig Harbor native Bradley Peloquin of Portland was fourth in 23:47.

The Cougars' Kelvin Limo was up with the front pack, before fading to 25th in 24:24, while Leif Swanson was WSU's third runner in 27th at 24:27.

Kyle Ortega-Gammill in 42nd at 24:43, and Jacob Eason in 56th at 25:07 rounded out the WSU scorers.

Host and unranked Oregon took the team title with 39 points, followed by number 19 Portland with 62, just ahead of UCLA's 63 points. WSU finished with 120 points.

In the women's 6k race, Washington State had three runners in the top 15, led by Alaina Stone-Boggs' fifth place finish in 20:08, with Caroline Jerotich one spot behind in 20:10.

Neema Kimtai was 15th in 20:42, then there was a gap to Pietra Da Silva, who was 31st in 21:21, and Samantha Boyle, who was 54th at 22:00.

Sierra Atkins of UC Davis took the individual crown at 19:54, while host and number 16 ranked Oregon won the team tile with 50 points.

UC Davis was second with 100 (won head-to-head tiebreaker 3-2), followed by Cal State Fullerton with the same score, and the Cougars were fourth at 102.

"This team is going to be very good by the end of the year. (Alaina Stone-Boggs), Caroline (Jerotich) and Neema (Kimtai) were so tough today. Pietra (Da Silva) and Samantha (Boyle) rallied over the last part of the race, and we just missed finishing second. This women's team is going to surprise some people this year," said WSU XC/track director & head coach Wayne Phipps.

In Boston, the 21st ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs finished fifth in the Coast to Coast Battle in Beantown at Franklin Park, hosted by Boston College.

Kristen Garcia led the way for the Zags with her 14th place finish over the 5k course in 17:41.

She was followed by Sadie Tuckwood in 19th at 17:53, then Alicia Anderson in 36th at 18:18.

Oregon grad transfer Caramia Mestler was 49th in 18:30, and Brittney Hansen was 57th in 18:37.

Elizabeth Mancini of LaSalle was the individual winner in 17:03, while unranked Virginia won the team title with 27 points.

The Cavaliers were followed by Northeastern with 97, Dartmouth at 113 and LaSalle with 170 (won head-to-head tiebreaker 3-2), the same score as Gonzaga.
