Zags and Dawgs stay in first regular season USTFCCCA national harrier rankings...
NEW ORLEANS--No significant changes occurred to the nationally ranked Gonzaga and Washington men's and women's cross country teams in the first regular season poll released by the USTFCCCA Tuesday.
The Gonzaga women stayed at their pre-season ranking of number 23, while Washington stayed at number eight.
Gonzaga competed at the Clash of the Inland Northwest two weeks ago in Cheney, losing to Eastern Washington, and won the Gonzaga Dual last week in Spokane, avenging their loss to the Eagles, led by two-time NCAA competitor Kristen Garcia (Keenan Gray/Gonzaga Athletics photo).
On the men's side, Washington also remained at number eight, while the Zags dropped two spots to number 18, despite winning both the Clash of the Inland Northwest, and the Gonzaga Dual against Eastern Washington.
The top five women's teams are in order: North Carolina State, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma State, and Stanford.
Other Pac-12 and West Coast Conference teams nationally ranked in the poll include number 7 BYU, number 17 Oregon, number 18 Utah, and number 26 Oregon State.
The top five men's teams are in order: Northern Arizona, Oklahoma State, Stanford, BYU & Colorado.
The only other Pac-12 or West Coast Conference teams nationally ranked in the poll is number 15 Portland.
Both Washington squads reported for their training camp after Labor Day, and will contest their season opener September 24th in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the Cowboy Jamboree, hosted by Oklahoma State University. Gonzaga's men's team will appear at the Cowboy Jamboree, while the women head to Boston for the Battle in Beantown, hosted by Boston College.
SEATTLEU ANNOUNCES STAFF HIRES...
Last week, Seattle University announced the promotion of Jordan LeSavage, increased the oversight of assistant coach Tony Monroe, and added two new assistants in Washington alum Julian Bardwell to work with the jumps, sprints, and multis, and Nathan Durkin to work primarily with the Redhawk distance runners.
LeSavage was a volunteer coach at Seattle University, and worked with the female distance runners.
Monroe, who was the jumps coach the last few seasons, will now work with the sprints, throws, and multis. He fills the position that Chad Pharis held before he left SeattleU after the 2022 season.
