SeattleU finishes eighth & twelfth at WAC Championships...


NACOGDOCHES, Texas--
Seattle University's cross country teams finished eighth in the women's 6k team competition, and twelfth in the men's 8k race at the Western Athletic Conference championships Saturday morning at Pecan Acres City Park, hosted by Stephen F. Austin University.

Azelea Groleau (center/photo courtesy SeattleU Athletics) was the Redhawks' top finisher in the women's race, crossing the line in 38th place in 22:05, followed by Caitlyn O'Neal in 44th at 22:14.

Lilianne Hargreaves, Grace Much, and Emily Harris finished together in 55th, 56th & 57th place in 22:36, 22:39, and 22:41 to close out their scorers, as SeattleU finished with 227 points.

Everlyn Kemboi of Utah Valley won the individual title in 19:34. Cal Baptist, currently ranked number 14 in the USTFCCCA coaches' poll, won the team title with a low score of 24 points, placing their five scorers inside the top eight.

In the men's 8k race, the Redhawks finished one spot outside the conference basement with a team score of 282 points, as Cal Baptist, currently ranked number 25 in the coaches' poll, won with a low score of 23 points, placing four runners inside the top ten, including conference champ Said Mechaal, who ran 22:59.

Alex Franklin was SeattleU's top finisher in 42nd at 24:51, followed by Gus Harquail in 49th at 24:59.

Hezekiah Goodwin was 55th in 25:09, followed by Lance Mason in 68th at 25:30, then Khalid Hirsi in 84th at 26:19.


AROUND THE COUNTRY...

At the Big 12 championships on Friday in Lubbock, Texas, Lake Stevens HS grad Taylor Roe of Oklahoma State finished second in 20:11, leading the Cowgirls, currently ranked number 3 in the country to the team title.

In the men's 8k race,  Jonas Price of Eisenhower HS & Oklahoma State finished 12th in 24:40, as the Cowboys, ranked number 4 in the country, rolled to the Big 12 crown.

At the Atlantic Coast Conference championships in Earlysville, Virginia, Bear Creek School grad and Woodinville native Olivia Markezich of Notre Dame finished third over the 6k distance in 19:30 to help the Irish, ranked sixth in the country, to a second place finish behind number one ranked North Carolina State.
