UW's Kieran Lumb vaults to early season world lead in winning men's 3000 in new school record...
SEATTLE--For the second year in a row, Washington senior Kieran Lumb (Paul Merca photo) pulled a rabbit out of his hat as he came away victorious in the featured mens 3000 meter run to highlight competition at the UW Indoor Preview at the Dempsey Indoor facility Saturday.
With two time world championships team member Johnny Gregorek and reigning NCAA 1500 meter champion Joe Waskom of the Huskies doing the pacing, Lumb cruised to a convincing victory, running a personal best 7:43.27 to set a new meet record, along with a UW school record, and for what it's worth this early in the season, running the fastest time in the world so far.
UW volunteer coach Sam Prakel was second in 7:50.16, the fifth fastest time in the world so far in 2023, and Stanford's Devin Hart finished third in 7:51.84, just in front of the Huskies' Aidan Ryan, the grad transfer from Williams, who set an all-time NCAA Division III mark in this event at last years' UW Preview.
In the women's mile, former Oklahoma State All-American Kaela Edwards ran the fastest time in the world so far, crossing the line in 4:32.83. Edwards was a double winner on the day, winning the 600 in 1:27.92.

--The Huskies' Nastassja Campbell became the fifth UW vaulter to clear 14 feet, as the Arkansas transfer cleared 14-0.5 (4.28m).
--In an event that hasn't been a priority for the Huskies, Prestin Artis became the fifth man in school history to jump over 25 feet, as he went exactly 25-0 (7.62m).
--The men's mile saw six runners break 4 minutes led by Stanford All-American Ky Robinson's 3:55.87. Washington's Nathan Green, an All-American for the Dawgs in the 1500, finally etched his name as the latest sub-4 miler, with his fourth place finish in a personal best 3:58.27.
--Washington State and Rainier Beach HS alum Emmanuel "Ray-Ray" Wells returned to competition after a nearly three year layoff, winning the men's 60 dash in 6.63.
--UW's Cass Elliott set a new school record in the 600 meter run, stopping the clock in 1:16.51.
