Another athlete that slipped past us...
Northwest Runner publisher Martin Rudow called me and said that two-time Olympian Allen James was entered in this weekend's 20-kilometer walk here at the Olympic Trials.
James, a 1982 graduate of Seattle's Shorecrest High, and 1987 grad of Western Washington, was America's most dominant race walker of the 1990s, earning a spot on the 1992 Olympic team in Barcelona at 20 kilometers, and at 50 k in 1996 in Atlanta.
James, who announced his retirement in 1997 in Atlanta at the US indoor championships, is seeded ninth going into the trials, with a time of 1:34:23.
The men's 20 kilometer walk is scheduled for Saturday at 7 am.
