Olympic Trials day 6 preview...
EUGENE--Bernard Lagat, who looked very relaxed and at ease in Thursday night’s opening round, looks to take care of business in Friday night’s men’s 1500 semifinals at 8:05 pm, local time.
Lagat is drawn in the same heat as American mile record holder Alan Webb, along with Shelton High graduate Andy McClary.
Auburn High grad Chris Lukezic is featured in the second of two semi-finals, where a top six finish is required to advance to Sunday’s finals.
Current Huskies Michelle Turner (wearing hip 3/photo by Paul Merca) and Katie Follett, along with incoming UW freshman Christine Babcock are competing in heat two of the women’s 1500 at 8:25 pm.
As is the case in the men’s 1500, top six finishers from each of the two semifinals advance to Sunday’s final to determine berths on the Olympic team.
Washington junior Jordan Boase is scheduled to compete in the first round of the men’s 200 meter dash, although he’ll enter the 200 with a blister on his foot that hampered his efforts in the semifinals of the 400 earlier this week.
University of Portland teammates Michael Kilburg from O’Dea HS, and John Moore from Olympia HS will run in the finals of the men’s 10000 at 9:20 pm, in a race that features 2004 Olympic marathon silver medalist Meb Keflezighi, 2008 Olympic marathon team member Dathan Ritzenhein, and University of Oregon redshirt Galen Rupp.
On the field, Eastern Washington grad David Paul will throw in the finals of the men’s hammer at 7.pm.
Two athletes with ties to Spokane Community College, Shae Murray, and current coach Ryan Weidman, are entered in the men’s javelin qualifying at 5:30 pm, along with Washington State’s Jon Jeffreys. Former UW & Boise State javelin thrower Justin St. Clair has opted not to compete due to an elbow injury suffered shortly before the trials.
Finally, Thomas Jefferson HS grad Kyle Jenkins, who competes for Indiana University, is entered in the qualifying round of the men’s triple jump at 7:10 pm.
