WEEKEND ROUNDUP: WAR 12 in Spokane and WWU Team Invitational contested in less than ideal conditions...

If there was one common denominator to this past weekend’s meets, it was that weather held down the quality of marks, but it didn’t stop athletes from competing.

In Spokane, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga and Central Washington were among the teams competing in the annual WAR (Washington Against the Region) meet hosted by Spokane Community College Friday and Saturday.

On the men's side, the Zags earned victories from Brandon Pollard in the 800 (1:53.20), Yacine Guermali (left/photo by Paul Merca) in the 5000 (14:51.85), Alex Walden in the 3000 steeple (9:31.85), Ciaran O’Leary in the 10000 (31:03.34).

On the men’s side, Eastern picked up wins from Joe Gauthier in the 100 (10.94), Isaac Barville in the 1500 (3:50.62), and Gavin Lee in the javelin (198-11/60.64m).

The women’s competition saw Sophie Bowles of the Eagles win the 200 (25.75), Katrina Terry win the pole vault (11-3.75/3.45m), and Margaret Nelson take the javelin (150-7/45.91m).

Central Washington All-American Mariyah Vongsaveng won the 100 hurdles in 14.47, while teammate Sidney Trinidad won the 400 hurdles in 60.44. The Wildcats won the 4x100 relay in 48.13, and took the 4x400 relay in 3:54.49.
