Eastern's Aulane Mpouli leads Pelluer heptathlon competition...
CHENEY—Eastern Washington’s Aulane Mpouli (left/photo courtesy EWU Athletics) holds a 37-point lead over teammate Dominique Butler after the first day of competition in the heptathlon at the Pelluer Invitational at Roos Field on the Eastern Washington campus.
Mpouli, a freshman from Auburn, opened the day by winning the 100 hurdles in 15.36 to take the early lead.
However, teammate Rebecca Thareek took the lead after the high jump with her winning clearance of 5-2.5 (1.59m), before Butler took over the lead after throwing the shot 38-2.75 (11.65m).
Mpouli regained the lead after winning the 200 in 25.22, as Butler only managed to run 26.98, and Thareek ran 27.97, to give Mpouli a 2834-2797 margin over Butler, with Thareek third at 2589.
In the decathlon competition, Grant Shurtliff, competing unattached, is the first day leader at 3547 points, over Eastern Washington’s Quintin Porterfield at 3435 points.
Lewis-Clark State’s Falk Thieme and Owen Lanning stand third and fourth after the first five events with scores of 3295, and 3097, respectively.
The multi-events portion of the Pelluer Invitational concludes Friday, with the main portion of the meet contested Saturday, featuring teams from Gonzaga, Whitworth, Lewis-Clark State, Whitman, Idaho, and Washington State.

ON TAP THIS WEEKEND
In addition to the Pelluer Invitational, Central Washington will host the Wildcat Invitational Saturday at the Wildcat Recreation Sports Complex.
The men’s hammer is the first field event at 10 am, while the women’s 5000 gets the track events underway at 11 am.
Saint Martin’s University will host the Jay Hammer Invitational Saturday on its campus track & field facility, featuring teams from Seattle University, Seattle Pacific, Portland State, and Western Washington.
The women’s hammer gets the meet underway at 9:00 am, while the women’s 10000 kicks off the track events at 9:45 am.

The University of Washington is the only school of the nine NCAA Division I and II with the weekend off.
HUSKY WOMEN STILL IN USTFCCCA D-1 NATIONAL TOP 25; VIKING & FALCON WOMEN RANKED IN DIVISION II
After last Saturday’s victory over Washington State in The Dual at Husky Track, the Washington women moved up one spot in the USTFCCCA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index.
The Huskies find themselves ranked number 18 in the index released on Monday.
The nation’s top five women’s teams are in order: USC, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Oregon, and LSU.
Other Pac-12 teams in the top 25 include #14 Stanford, #15 Colorado, and #22 UCLA.
No Washington schools are in the men’s national D-I top 25.
The nation’s top five teams are in order: Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Florida, BYU and Alabama.
Pac-12 teams in the top 25 included #7 Oregon, #14 Arizona, #15 Stanford, and #25 UCLA.
