Stanovsek gets only Husky win at Jim Click, but throwers shine...
TUCSON--Mick Stanovsek picked up the only win for the University of Washington track team Saturday night at the Jim Click Shootout hosted by the University of Arizona at Drachman Stadium.
Stanovsek, an All-American in the distance medley relay, won the 800 meters in 1:49.34, making his move over the last 200 meters.
Other highlights included a strong showing in the discus by defending Pac-12 champion Elijah Mason, as the Arizona native finished second with a toss of 193-10 (59.08m). As a precursor to his performance in the shot put, teammate Jonah Wilson finished third behind Mason, throwing 191-3 (58.29m).
Both marks should get them onto the top ten on the NCAA descending order list.
Wilson then finished second in the shot put with a throw of 61-9.75 (18.84m).
The Huskies' Dalton Sugg finished second in the javelin, rifling the spear 218-6 (66.60m).
Julian Body continued his impressive first outdoor season for the Dawgs as he ran two new Top-10 times. First came a PR in the 110m hurdles, his third in a row, as he clocked a 14.02 to go to No. 5 in school history. He then took third in the 400m hurdles, in a season-best of 51.64, just .02 off his PR from his Stanford days. That time ties for ninth in the Husky annals.
UW All-American Darhian Mills finished third in a very exciting 400 meter hurdles race, running 58.65. On the field, freshman Lauren Heggen (above/photo by Paul Merca) finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 40-3.5 (12.28m), and pole vaulter Makenna Barton was third with a best of 12-0 (3.66m), as she had trouble dealing with the swirling winds during the competition.
The Huskies will have next weekend off to prepare for the upcoming UW-WSU Dual Meet, which returns to Husky Outdoor Track on Wednesday, Apr. 21.
