WEEKEND ROUNDUP: WAR XIV, John Knight Invitational & Pacific Lutheran Invitational recaps...

The long travel from Tucson home to Seattle on Sunday meant that I wasn't able to post the recap of meets involving the state's other Division I and II schools on Saturday.

Here's what happened Saturday:

WAR XIV

Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Central Washington, and Washington State all had representatives at the WAR XIV meet in Spokane hosted by Spokane Community College Saturday.

The meet had a mix of weather conditions during the day, with some sun, along with wind, rain, hail and cold conditions holding down potential top marks.

Two of the top marks in the men's meet came from Zach Klobutcher (photo courtesy EWU Athletics) in the pole vault and Parker Bowden of Eastern Washington in the 110 hurdles.

Klobutcher set a new best in the pole vault of 16-2.5 (4.94m), which gave him the win and moved Klobutcher to number 7 on the Eastern all-time top 10 list.

Considering the conditions, Parker Bowden had another great performance in the 110-meter hurdles, winning with a time of 14.07.

Central Washington's Andrew Harris and Aidan Cain each got themselves on the NCAA D2 provisional list with their second and fourth place finishes in the hammer. Harris, who has a better mark this season, was second with a throw of 188-7 (57.48m), while Cain was fourth in 182-9 (55.70m).

Eastern's Morgan Fossen led a 1-5 sweep of the women's pole vault, as she cleared 12-6 (3.81m) despite the conditions.

Washington State freshman Carolina Ulloa-Daza continued to impress, winning the hammer at 184-6 (56.24m).

JOHN KNIGHT INVITATIONAL

Western Washington traveled a number of athletes to Monmouth, Oregon Friday & Saturday for the John Knight Invitational hosted by Western Oregon.

On Friday, Mac Franks finished 3rd in the men's 1500 in an NCAA II championships provisional qualifying mark of 3:49.57, while Alaska-Anchorage transfer Kaleb Korta placed 2nd in the 3000 steeplechase in 9:12.73.

Hannah Nienaber recorded a personal-best mark winning the javelin competition with a throw of 155-11 (47.52m) to top the 12-competitor field.

Saturday, Koby Okezie recorded an impressive win in the men's 110m Hurdles, clocking the 5th-fastest time in program history in 14.69.

Cordell Cummings, a six-time GNAC hurdles champion, won the 400m hurdles in 53.90 seconds and placed third in the 110m hurdles in 14.85 seconds.

Aliyah Dawkins won the 100m hurdles, clocking 14.96, just off her personal-best time of 14.91 set last weekend at the WWU Invitational.

PLU INVITATIONAL

In Tacoma, Saint Martin's Michael Russell claimed first place in the 100 m of the time of 10.96 seconds and 22.10 in the 200.

Teammate Makiya Worthy nearly joined Russell with top of the podium finishes in the 100 and 200 dashes. Worthy took first place in the 200m with a time of 24.94 seconds and second place in the 100m at 12.35 seconds.

Seattle Pacific's Scout Cai, who competed the day before in a dual meet against Seattle University, won the pole vault at 10-11.75 (3.35m) over Western Washington's Lexi Perry, who cleared the same height.

The TFRRS results list it as a tie; however, Cai cleared the height on her second attempt, while Perry needed three attempts to make the height.
