TOYOTA USATF OUTDOOR PREVIEW: The road to Oregon22 goes through Hayward Field...
If you want to compete at the world championships, the road to Eugene goes directly through Hayward Field starting Thursday.
The big prize on the line in the Toyota USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships in TrackTown USA is a spot on Team USATF for the World Track & Field Championships on home turf in TrackTown three weeks later.
The top three finishers who hold the all-important world championship standards are on the team for Oregon22. That said, World Athletics can fill the field with the top-ranked athletes in an event based on their world rankings as of June 26th.
Additionally, the United States will get three entries plus a wild card entry for the defending champion from Doha in the women's 100 & 400 hurdles & hammer; men's 100, 200, 800, 110 hurdles, pole vault, triple jump, shot put; and Diamond League winners in the women's shot, discus & men's 400.
Forty one athletes with ties to the state of Washington are entered in this weekend’s national championships, with 22 athletes alone in action on Thursday.

The Brooks Beasts have nine entries in the meet, led by Doha world championship team member Brannon Kidder (Paul Merca photo). Washington has Luke Houser (1500), Anna Gibson & Allie Schadler (1500), and Cass Elliott (400H), while Washington State has Colton Johnsen (steeple) in the meet.
Other collegians in the meet include Connell native Ashton Riner of BYU in the women's javelin, Kenneth Rooks of College Place near Walla Walla in the steeple for BYU; Trey Knight of Ridgefield and USC in the hammer; and Tacoma's Jack Yearian and Lexi Ellis of Oregon in the 1500 and triple jump.
Tokyo Olympian Kara Winger from Vancouver, who is competing in her final season as a pro, is entered in the javelin.

U20 CHAMPIONSHIPS HAPPENING IN EUGENE AS WELL...
In addition to the Toyota USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the USATF Under-20 Championships are being contested at Hayward Field starting Thursday, and ending Saturday.
The USATF U20 Outdoor Championships will serve as the selection event for the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, August 1-6, 2022.
The top two finishers in each individual event will earn spots on the U20 world championship team.
There are nine athletes with Washington ties entered in the meet, led by NCAA 1500m 7th placer Nathan Green of the Huskies.
Twins Amanda and Hana Moll of Olympia's Capital HS, two of the state's most accomplished prep pole vaulters, are in the field, as well as the outstanding high jumper and heptathlete JaiCieonna Gero-Holt of Emerald Ridge HS in Puyallup.
Squalicum HS hurdler Andre Korbmacher is entered in the 110 hurdles.
