Nathan Green's winning anchor legs at Penn Relays earns USTFCCCA D1 National AOW honors...
NEW ORLEANS--Washington's Nathan Green (UW Athletics photo) was announced by the USTFCCCA as its men's Division I athlete of the week for week ending April 26th.
Green ran the anchor leg on the Huskies' distance medley relay and 4 x one mile relay teams that won the prestigious Penn Relays Championship of America Wheels Friday and Saturday in Philadelphia.
In Friday's distance medley relay, Green ran a split of 3:55.14 over 1600 meters, motoring past Texas A&M's Cooper Cawthra and Oregon's Rheinhardt Harrison over the last 300 meters to win the Huskies' first ever Penn Relays Wheel.
Under rainy skies on Saturday, Green took the Huskies to its second straight Penn Relays Wheel by anchoring the 4 x mile to victory in a tactical affair involving Ethan Strand, the NCAA mile record-holder for North Carolina, Virginia's Gary Martin, the number two miler in NCAA history behind Strand, and Liam Murphy, the NCAA 1,500m record-holder for Villanova.
Green outkicked all of them on the final lap, crossing the line in 16:24.61, with Villanova (16:24.92), North Carolina (16:25.19) and Virginia (16:25.40) in his wake.
This marks the first time a Husky male has been named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season.
