In Filderstadt, Germany, Washington State University alum Alissa Brooks-Johnson (above/photo by Paul Merca) stands seventh Saturday after the first day of competition in the annual Thorpe Cup heptathlon dual meet between Team USATF and Germany.
Brooks-Johnson, a former Pac-12 champ and All-American for the Cougs who finished fourth in this meet last year in Knoxville, Tennessee (5868 points) started the day by running 14.05 in the 100 hurdles, worth 971 points.
She then cleared 5-6 (1.68m) to pick up 830 points, then threw the shot 41-3.75 (12.59m) to get 700 points.
Brooks-Johnson’s day ended by running 25.06 in the 200 meters, worth 881 points, for a first day total of 3382 points.
Anna Maiwald of Germany is the first day co-leader with a four-event total of 3589 points along with Emilyn Dearman of Team USATF.
