Eight athletes with Washington ties on USATF roster for Doha World Championships...

INDIANAPOLIS—Eight reigning world champions and 13 Rio Olympic gold medalists will lead 141 athletes on the Team USATF roster for the 2019 IAAF World Championships, held September 27-October 6 in Doha, Qatar.

Representing the U.S. in the delegation announced Monday are 55 Olympians including 26 Olympic medalists that have a combined 44 Olympic medals, as well as 78 previous World Championships team members with a total of 65 medals.

Eight athletes with ties to the state of Washington are among the 141 athletes that will go to Doha.

Leading the charge to Doha are 2016 Olympians Matthew Centrowitz (left/photo by Paul Merca), Devon Allen, Hassan Mead, and Kara Winger, all four of whom were on the 2017 world championship team that competed in London.

Centrowitz, the reigning Olympic champion in the 1500 meters, is a volunteer coach at the University of Washington under Andy and Maurica Powell.

Winger is a native of Vancouver, while Allen and Mead spent significant time in Renton and Puyallup, respectively.

Also making the trip to Doha is Bellevue native Katie Burnett, who was fourth in the inaugural women’s 50-kilometer walk in London two years ago.

New to the world championship outdoor team are NCAA steeplechase champion Allie Ostrander, and Brannon Kidder of the Seattle-based Brooks Beasts, along with former Pullman resident and Washington State volunteer coach Katie Nageotte, who has been a regular on the IAAF Diamond League circuit the last two years.

Kidder was added to Team USATF as a result of national champion Donavan Brazier winning the IAAF Diamond League final at the ZĂĽrich Weltklasse meet, giving the USA a fourth entry. Kidder finished sixth at the US nationals, but was the highest finisher outside the top three that possessed the world championship qualifying standard of 1:45.80.

Here’s the list of athletes with Washington ties competing for Team USATF along with their event:

Devon Allen: 110 Hurdles
Katie Burnett: 50k race walk
Matthew Centrowitz: 1500 meters
Brannon Kidder: 800 meters
