Allie Ostrander preps for Doha by racing in Fifth Avenue Mile on NBC Sports Sunday...
As the domestic season winds down, a number of athletes with Washington ties are headed to New York for Sunday’s New Balance Fifth Avenue Mile.
The event stretches 20 blocks down Manhattan’s most famous thoroughfare. In partnership with New York Road Runners and USA Track & Field, NBC will broadcast the professional athlete races live on NBC at 9:30 am, Pacific.
Among those in the women’s’ race trying to stop Jenny Simpson from winning her eighth New Balance Fifth Avenue Mile are Allie Ostrander (left/photo by Paul Merca) of the Brooks Beasts, a three-time NCAA champion in the steeplechase who qualified for her first World Championships this fall, will join them as she lines up for her first road race as a professional athlete.
Washington alums Eleanor Fulton and Amy-Eloise Neale are also in the field of 23 women.
On the men’s side, Washington volunteer coach Sam Prakel will run, along with David Ribich, Henry Wynne, and UW alum Izaic Yorks of the Brooks Beasts.

In Minsk, Belarus, pole vaulter Katie Nageotte and 1500 meter runner Katie Mackey will kick off competition in The Match on Monday, as the USA competes against Europe in a dual meet featuring four athletes from each squad per event.
On Tuesday, steeplechasers Caroline Austin, Marisa Howard, and Mel Lawrence, along with 800 meter runner Brannon Kidder, 3000 meter runner Hassan Mead, and javelin thrower Kara Winger will go into battle for Team USATF at Dinamo National Olympic Stadium.

On Friday, former Pullman resident Katie Nageotte finished fourth in the Diamond League pole vault finals at the Van Damme Memorial Meeting in Brussels, Belgium.
Nageotte was one of four women who cleared 15-5 (4.70m), but got fourth as she cleared on her first attempt.
Stanford alum Katerina Stefanidi, the reigning world and Olympic champion, won another Diamond League title, clearing 15-10 (4.83m).
