Cougars' Charisma Taylor sets two meet records at Matador Qualifier...

In Lubbock, Texas, Washington State's Charisma Taylor (photo courtesy University of Arkansas) set a new school and meet record in winning the 60 meter hurdles Friday at the Matador Qualifier, hosted by Texas Tech University.

Taylor ran 8.27 in the semifinals, which was the fastest time of the day.

The native of the Bahamas then dropped it down in the finals, running 8.16 to break the 20-year old school record of 8.21 set by Agneta Rosenblad in 2001.

She also set a meet record in the triple jump, as the 2020 All-American in that event bounded 44-1.5 (13.45m), just a hair short of her school record of 44-2.75 (13.48m) set last year in Albuquerque.

The latter mark currently places her number eight on the NCAA Division I performance list in that event.

In other events, the Cougars' Sam Brixey and Nick Johnson went 1-2 in the men's 60 hurdles, running 7.81 and 7.99, respectively.

Mitch Jacobson finished second in the men's high jump, clearing 6-11.5 (2.12m), as Texas Tech's Jack Scarborough won at 7-1.5 (2.17m).

Mountlake Terrace native Chinne Okoronkwo, who is being redshirted at Texas Tech, finished third in the women's long jump with a best of 18-7.75 (5.68m), as teammate Callie Jones won at 19-2 (5.84m).

Washington State will send athletes to Seattle for next week's Husky Classic at the Dempsey Indoor on Friday and Saturday February 26-27.

SEATTLE PACIFIC TRAVELS TO ELLENSBURG FOR CWU WINTER INVITE XC MEET...

Just when you thought there was no chance of a cross country season in NCAA Division II in the state of Washington, Seattle Pacific travels to Ellensburg for a meet Saturday against Central Washington at Tomlinson Stadium & Athletic Fields on the CWU campus.

The men will run an 8k race at 11:30 am, followed by the women's 6k race at 12:20 pm.

No fans will be allowed at the meet, in keeping with COVID-19 protocols.

Falcon associate head coach Chris Reed said, "On paper, it isn't a big meet at all. But it's a big meet for us because it's an opportunity to sharpen that competitive tool that we haven't had a chance to work with much in the last 12 months. In many ways, it gives us a little bit of a head start on our ability to compete in track."

While both cross country and indoor track seasons were cancelled by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, the conference intends to hold an outdoor track season, with the multi-event championship contested May 3-4 at Central Washington, and the track & field championships on May 14-15 at Western Oregon.  The NCAA Division II outdoor championship is scheduled for May 27-29 in Kingsville, Texas.

Seattle Pacific's preview of the meet is available here.
