FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas--Seattle resident and University of Washington graduate Olivia Gruver (photo by Paul Merca) set a new personal best with her second place finish at the third meet of the American Track League series Sunday afternoon at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Gruver opened the competition with a second attempt clearance at 14-4.5 (4.38m), then had a first attempt clearance at the next height of 14-8.25 (4.48m).
After a second attempt make at 15-0.25 (4.58m), she cleared the nest two heights of 15-4.25 (4.68m) and 15-6.25 (4.73m), the latter height matching her all-time personal best and outdoor collegiate record set in March 2019 at Stanford.
Gruver, who is currently competing without a shoe & apparel sponsorship, cleared a new personal best of 15-8.25 (4.78m) on her second attempt, before bowing out with three misses at 15-10 (4.83m).
Reigning world indoor champion, Olympic silver medalist and Arkansas alum Sandi Morris took the victory with a third attempt make at 16-0 (4.88m) after salting the win at the previous height of 15-10 (4.83m) on her first attempt.
Morris' winning height is currently the best mark in the world this season, while Gruver's is the fourth best in the world so far in 2021.
West Seattle HS grad Chloe Cunliffe finished fifth with a best of 14-0.5 (4.28m).
On the track, Chloe's older sister Hannah finished fourth in the 60 meter dash, running a season best 7.21, as former UTEP standout Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria won in a personal best 7.10.
An hour later, Hannah returned to the track and finished sixth overall in the 200 meters (third in section 2), running 23.40, as her former Oregon teammate Jenna Prandini won in 22.55.
