World Indoor Championships begin Friday in Belgrade...


The final weekend of the 2021-22 indoor track and field season gets underway Friday morning in Belgrade, Serbia, as the world indoor track and field championships begins its three day run.

Isaiah Harris of the Brooks Beasts and Lake Washington HS grad Dillon Maggard (Paul Merca photo), both representing Team USA, are the first athletes with Washington ties in action.

Harris goes in the first round of the men's 800 at 4:50 am (12:50 pm local time)

Maggard, the lone American runner in the men's 3000, runs at 5:25 am, Seattle time (1:25 pm local time).

UW alum Amy-Eloise Markovc is the only athlete with Washington ties competing in a final, as Markovc, the reigning European champion from Great Britain, runs in the finals of the 3000 meters at 12:25 pm Seattle time (8:25 pm local time).

Peacock, CNBC, and NBC Sports (KING 5 in Seattle) will provide coverage of the world indoor track and field championships. Please check your local and cable listings for air times.

Washington State and Central Washington get the weekend's outdoor track and field competition going Friday, as the Cougars have a contingent of athletes in Tempe, Arizona at the Baldy Castillo Invitational at Joe Selleh Track at Sun Angel Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University.

Two hours south of Tempe, a small group of hurdlers from Central Washington University are competing at the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, hosted by the University of Arizona.

Gonzaga, Washington State and Eastern Washington will be at the Sam Adams Invitational Friday and Saturday in Spokane, hosted by Whitworth University.

The rest of the Washington schools will compete Saturday, with Western Washington, Saint Martin's, Central Washington, and the University of Washington in Seattle at the Doris Heritage Track Festival at West Seattle Stadium, hosted by Seattle Pacific; and Seattle University opens in Corvallis at the Oregon State PNW Invitational.
