THE WEEKEND AHEAD: UW at Raleigh Relays, EWU, GU & WSU in Spokane; SPU, SMU & Central in Tacoma...


Seven of Washington's nine Division I and II schools are in action in various meets, with the Washington Huskies, which is on spring break this week, going across the country to Raleigh, North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays starting Thursday, hosted by North Carolina State.

Thursday track events will feature the men's 1,500-meters, the men's 5,000-meters, and the women's 10,000-meters with All-American Haley Herberg (Paul Merca photo), and field events will be the women's pole vault, men's and women's javelin and men's and women's shot puts. 

Friday's long day starts at 7 a.m. Pacific time with the women's 5,000-meters, and proceeds with 100/110m hurdles, 100m and 400m dashes, women's 1,500-meters, men's and women's steeplechases, the women's 5,000-meters, then the men's 10,000-meters to wrap up. Field events will have men's and women's discus throws, high jumps, triple jumps, and the men's pole vault.

The three-day meet that has entries from over 100 schools concludes Saturday with the 4x100m relays, 800-meters, 400m hurdles, 200-meters, and the 4x400m relays. Field events on the final day are the hammer throws, and the long jumps.

Washington volunteer coaches Tim Duckworth (long jump) & Olivia Gruver (pole vault), and Spokane native John Dressel (5000m) are entered in the meet as well.

The ACC Network Extra (part of the ESPN streaming service) will stream portions of the meet.

In Spokane, Whitworth University hosts the Buc Scoring Invitational Thursday and Friday, with Eastern Washington, Washington State and Gonzaga sending athletes to the meet.

Thursday's action consists of the first day of the multi events, plus the men's and women's 5000, hammers, and javelins and the women's pole vault, with everything getting underway at 11 am.

Friday's action starts at 11 am with the decathlon 110 hurdles, with the main portion of the meet starting at 3pm, and concluding around 7 pm.

The majority of Eastern Washington's athletes will head to Missoula, Montana for Friday and Saturday's Al Manuel Invitational hosted by the University of Montana.

Finally, Seattle Pacific, Central Washington and Saint Martin's travel to Tacoma for Saturday's Peyton-Shotwell Invitational at Baker Stadium on the campus of the University of Puget Sound, starting at 11 am.
