Sam Prakel's 3:36.36 1500m time from 2021 puts him on world indoor champs team...

Thanks to the 3:36.36 1500 meter clocking at last year's New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Staten Island, New York, University of Washington volunteer assistant coach Sam Prakel (Paul Merca photo) will replace Cole Hocker on the USA world indoor championship team that will travel to Belgrade, Serbia March 18-20th.

Prakel finished fourth in the 1500 in a time of 3:39.92 at the USATF Indoor Championships Sunday at The Podium in Spokane behind Hocker (3:39.09), Josh Thompson (3:39.24), and Henry Wynne of the Brooks Beasts (3:39.60).

Hocker, who won the 3000 Saturday night as well, opted not to go to Belgrade in either event, which opened up a spot in the 3000 for Kirkland native Dillon Maggard, who announced it on social media Monday.

Since Wynne did not run the standard of 3:39.00 in the indoor 1500 or the mile standard of 3:55.00 between January 1, 2021 and the end of the national championships, Prakel was the next runner in line for the world championships spot.

Prakel announced that he'd been selected for Team USATF on his Instagram page Tuesday afternoon:

Prakel joins Maggard, along with former Pullman resident Katie Nageotte (pole vault) and Isaiah Harris of the Seattle based Brooks Beasts on Team USATF for the world indoor championships.

Washington alum Amy-Eloise Markovc will represent Great Britain in the 3000 meters at the world indoors.
