Katie Nageotte earns silver medal at world indoor champs...

BELGRADE, Serbia--Former Pullman resident Katie Nageotte (Getty Images for World Athletics), the reigning Olympic champion, finished second in the women's pole vault at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Saturday at Štark Arena.

Nageotte's bid to add a World indoor championship to the Olympic crown was foiled by training partner Sandi Morris, as Morris cleared a season best 15-9 (4.80m), while Nageotte only managed 15-7 (4.75m).

Isaiah Harris of the Brooks Beasts, who qualified for Saturday's final on Friday by winning heat four on Friday in 1:47.00, finished seventh, also in a time of 1:47.00, as Mariano Garcia of Spain won in 1:46.20.

UW volunteer assistant coach Sam Prakel ran a season best 3:38.69 to advance to Sunday's final in the 1500 meters.

Competing in heat 3, Prakel finished fourth but was one of the three time qualifiers.

On Friday, Lake Washington HS grad Dillon Maggard qualified for Sunday's finals in the 3000 meters, as he ran 7:48.58 to finish fourth and earn an automatic berth.

Reigning European champion and Washington alum Amy-Eloise Markovc had a rough go in the finals of the women's 3000, finishing 15th in 8:53.57.

Sunday, Maggard runs in the finals of the men's 3000 at 4:10 am Seattle time (12:10pm in Belgrade), while Prakel runs in the finals of the 1500at 10:35 am Seattle time (6:35 pm in Belgrade).
