Texas awaits UW, WSU, Central & Western with Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational...
Washington, Washington State, Central Washington and Western Washington will send groups of athletes to Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays, which began Wednesday with the multi-events.
While the other three schools have already competed outdoors, the Texas Relays marks the season outdoor opener for the University of Washington, which had finals last week and opted not to compete.
Washington's group competing is fairly small, led by 400 hurdlers Anna Terrell and Bodi Ligons (Paul Merca photo), both of whom last competed at the NCAA indoor championships in the distance medley relay.
The Huskies are also sending pole vaulters Scott Toney and Mathis Bresko.
Washington State's group is composed primarily of sprinters and jumpers, led by NCAA competitors Mason Lawyer and Tatum Moku.
Central Washington has a group of sprinters entered, led by All-American E'lexis Hollis, while Western Washington's group consists of javelin throwers Andrew Nelson and Sean Witters.
Much like what numerous teams do in Southern California for the Bryan Clay, Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invitational, Central will also have a larger group of athletes entered in the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos hosted by Texas State University, about a 35 minute drive from Austin. The Bobcat Invitational begins Thursday.
Western Washington will also have a larger group of throwers at the Bobcat Invitational, and Washington State will have entries in the sprints and jumps as well.
Both Terrell and Ligons are also entered in the 400 hurdles for UW at the Bobcat Invitational.
In the first day of the Texas Relays, Washington State's Erik Larripa Taxell stands 19th in the decathlon with 3345 points. He had marks of 11.27 in the 100, 20-4.5 (6.21m) in the long jump, 38-9.75 (11.83m) in the shot put, 5-8.5 (1.74m) in the high jump, and 51.68 in the 400.
