Olympians Lumb, Kerr, Hinchliffe, O'Sullivan and Fay compete in their national championships...

While our focus over the next few days will center on the Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships happening at Hayward Field in Eugene, there's also a group of athletes competing in various national championships around the world, as this weekend is a designated national championships window by World Athletics.

This weekend, 38 federations around the world are holding their national championships, according the World Athletics calendar for this weekend.

Here's what we know as of now, keeping in mind that several federations have not posted entries on their web sites.

Across the border in Canada, the Canadian championships are happening in Ottawa.

Washington alum Kieran Lumb (Paul Merca photo) is entered in both the 1500 and the 5000, with the latter event slated for Thursday afternoon.

Lumb, who was on their Olympic team last year, announced earlier in the week that he's now being coached by Gjert Ingebrigtsen and leaving UW coach Andy Powell's pro group in Seattle, is coming off a personal best of 13:12.54 set in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium on the 19th.

It currently is the second fastest time in Canada this season.

Also competing at the Canadian championships is fellow UW alum Aaron Ahl in the steeplechase; Chloe Thomas, who is an incoming UW grad transfer from UConn in the women's 5000; incoming Husky freshman Chloe Symon in the U20 400 meters; and Washington State alum Jasneet Nijjar, who was part of Canada's 4 x 400 relay pool at the Olympics, but did not see action in Paris.

Nijjar is entered in the women's 400 meters.

The Canadian championships go through Sunday.

In Birmingham, the UK Athletics championships begin Saturday.

Josh Kerr of the Brooks Beasts, who is the defending world champion at 1500 meters, is entered in the 5000 meters, where he has a personal best of 13:23.78 from four years ago. He last ran it two years ago.

Fellow British Olympian and former Washington State standout Louie Hinchliffe looks to get back to form in the men's 100 meters. Hinchliffe, who won the NCAA title for the University of Houston last year, has a season best of 10.08, set in Tomblaine, France on July 4th.

Washington alum India Weir is entered in the women's 5000, while Washington State's Nana Gyedu is entered in the women's shot put.

Ireland's national championships
are also being contested Saturday through Sunday in Dublin.

Washington's Sophie O'Sullivan (center/Paul Merca photo), the reigning NCAA champion in the women's 1500, is entered in both the 800 and 1500.

Since winning the NCAAs in June, she's only raced twice as the European Athletics Second Division Team Championships in Slovenia on June 28th, where she ran the 800 in 2:12.87; and a 1500 in Brescia, Italy, where she ran 4:10.76 on July 15th. She was entered in the World University Games, and the London Diamond League meet, but withdrew.

Fellow Irish Olympian and UW alum Brian Fay is entered in the men's 5000. Fay currently has the fastest time in the country so far this season at 13:08.25, set in Heusden-Zolder on July 19th.

Finally, Washington rising sophomore Sofia Cosculluela, fresh off of a seventh place finish in the heptathlon at the European Athletics U23 championships two weeks ago, will compete in the Spanish national championships in Tarragona, where she's the defending champion.

We will post a recap of the various national championships on Monday.
