COLLEGE NOTES: WSU throws coach Julie Taylor returns to Idaho; Corley transfers to Eastern...
In what was rumored shortly after Washington State let go of three assistant coaches last month, the University of Idaho announced Thursday that former Washington State throws coach Julie Taylor (photo illustration courtesy Idaho Athletics) will reprise her role as throws coach of the Vandals.
Taylor is one of the premier coaches in the Pacific Northwest and will return to her alma mater after a highly successful eleven year stint at Washington State.
Taylor coached multiple Cougar throwers to numerous Pac-12 and All-American accolades, including Brock Eager, who took home the Pac-12 title in the hammer throw in 2017 and 2019. Eager also earned back-to-back-to-back All-American honors at the NCAA Championships from 2017-19.
Before moving eight miles west to Pullman to join WSU director Wayne Phipps, who was the head coach at Idaho, Taylor was the throws coach at Idaho.
An accomplished thrower for UI herself, Taylor set outdoor records in both the shot put and discus during her career. However, her Vandal athletes were so successful that they broke enough records to knock their coach out of the top-10 entirely, a testament to her development of elite throwers in Moscow.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Julie and Tim back to Moscow to lead our throw program," said Idaho director Tracy Hellman.
"Julie's experience in the throws speaks for itself as she has not only developed elite throwers at the DI level, [but] she understands the type of student-athlete we want to attract here at Idaho."
SPOKANE NATIVE DOMINICK CORLEY TRANSFERS TO EASTERN WASHINGTON...
Eastern Washington University announced on its Instagram account that Mead HS standout Dominick Corley will transfer in after spending one season at USC.
Corley was one of the country's top sprints recruits when he graduated from Mead in 2024.
He ranked second among high school athletes with a time of 6.64 in the 60m dash and seventh in the indoor 200m with a time of 21.09. He won the 2024 New Balance Nationals 60m title with a time of 6.67. He also ran outdoor PRs of 10.39 in the 100m and 21.05 in the 200m last season. Corley won the 100m title at the 2023 USATF Junior Olympics. He also won the 100m and placed second in the 200m at the 2024 Washington state track and field championships.
Corley was the only high school athlete who ran in the 2024 USATF indoor championships where he ran 6.66.
In his one season at USC, Corley only competed in one meet, the Spokane Sports Showcase, where he ran 6.87.
Washington State sprinters Zoe and Lahela Ray have found new homes at Tarleton State, after competing for the Cougars during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
The twins were among the first Cougars to put themselves in the transfer portal after the school's decision to move to a distance-based program, eliminating all field events and giving little, if any, support to the sprints and hurdles.
