GNAC champion Vikings maintain their hold on USTFCCCA national D2 top 30...

NEW ORLEANS--
Fresh off winning its fourth straight men's and women's Great Northwest Athletic Conference cross country titles and coming home to Bellingham with both trophies (above/photo courtesy GNAC), both Western Washington squads continued their hold in the national rankings after the release of the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II coaches' poll Wednesday.

Western Washington dropped four spots in the national poll to number 13, after being ranked number 9 in the previous poll.

What's most interesting is that Chico State, who Western beat two weeks ago at the Lewis Crossover in Illinois, jumped ahead of the Vikings to number 11.

There was a slight change in the national top five after conference championship weekend.

Wingate, Adams State, Colorado School of Mines, Grand Valley State, and Lee (Tennessee) are the nation's top five men's teams.

Teams besides Chico State and Western Washington in the West Region ranked in the national top 30 include Cal Poly Pomona at 16, Alaska Anchorage at 20, and Northwest Nazarene at 23.

The Viking women's team moved up one spot to number 20 in the latest poll after winning the GNAC title for the fourth straight year.

Colorado School of Mines, Grand Valley State, UC Colorado Springs, West Texas A&M, and Cedarville are the nation's top five women's teams after conference championship weekend.

Chico State at number 9, Stanislaus State at 10, Biola at 13, and Alaska Anchorage at 27 are the nationality ranked women's teams in this week's poll from the West Region.

The West Regional championships will be held November 8th at Ash Creek Preserve on the campus of Western Oregon University in McMinnville, Oregon.
