CHICAGO--Jessica Frydenlund's (Paul Merca file photo) sixth place finish at Friday's Loyola Lakefront Invitational women's 6k race helped lead Gonzaga to a third place team finish, ahead of 11th ranked Washington, which finished fourth.
Frydenlund, a native of Anacortes, covered the 6k distance at the Sydney Marovitz Golf Course in a time of 19:57, as Hannah Gapes of NC State, the nation's number 2 ranked team, took the win in 19:20.
Behind Frydenlund, Logan Hofstee was next in 17th in 20:10, followed by Willow Collins in 20th in 20:14.

It was at the four and five spots that cost Washington a higher team placing, as Samantha Tran finished 48th in 20:44, and Josephine Welin was 58th in 20:54, giving the Huskies a 1-5 split of 52 seconds.
North Carolina State won with 34 points, putting all five scorers inside the top 13. Northwestern Number 26 Northwestern was second with 59 points, followed by Gonzaga's 123 and Washington's 141 points.
In the men's 8k, 24th ranked Washington finished eighth with 164 points, despite running a skeleton team of six runners.

Washington was missing Big Ten 10000 meter champion Evan Jenkins. The Huskies are also currently redshirting Tyrone Gorze, two runners who certainly would have made a difference Friday.
Elsingi Kipruto of Louisville won the race in 23:15, while number 7 Wisconsin took the team title with 71 points, ahead of host Loyola's 108, Minnesota's 111, and Louisville's 129 points.
