Washington squads & Gonzaga women in action at Loyola Lakefront Invitational Friday...
Four of Washington's Division I schools are in action Friday and Saturday as the regular cross country season nears the halfway mark.
Washington (Paul Merca photo) and the Gonzaga women's team are off to Chicago for Friday's Lakefront Invitational at the Sydney Marovitz Golf Course, hosted by Loyola University.
While the Gonzaga women have appeared at this meet in recent years, this marks the first time that Washington has competed at this meet.
Action begins with the women's invitational 6k at 7 am Pacific (9 am local time), followed by the men's 8k 40 minutes later.
On the women's side, eight teams are nationally ranked: No. 30 Boston College, No. 29 Minnesota, No. 26 Northwestern, No. 21 Washington, No. 18 North Carolina, No. 11 Washington, No. 7 Providence, and No. 2 NC State. Additionally, Gonzaga received votes in the latest NCAA DI women's poll. On the men's side, No. 24 Washington, No. 16 North Carolina, and No. 7 Wisconsin are ranked as well.
Both Washington squads have been idle since competing against SeattleU on September 2nd.
The Gonzaga women have also been idle, with their last race the Clash of the Inland Northwest meet on August 29th.
One significant change in the Washington men's roster is that Tyrone Gorze, who was 16th at the Big Ten cross country championships, and seventh at the Big Tens in the 10000 this past spring, is as of now, being redshirted this season, according to the team's TFRRS stats website.
The meet will not be streamed; the link to live results is available here.
Saturday, Gonzaga and Eastern Washington will send a group of athletes to Walla Walla for the Whitman Open, hosted by Whitman College at the Veterans Memorial Golf Course, starting at 11 am.
Seattle University will make the drive to Salem, Oregon to compete at the Charles Bowles Invitational, hosted by Willamette University at McCulloch Stadium and Bush Park.
While the field is primarily consisting of Division II, III and community college teams, several D1 schools are in the field including Portland, Portland State, Loyola Marymount, Nevada and Hawaii.
The meet starts at 9:30 am with the men's 8k, followed by the women's 6k at 10:20 am.
The link to live results has not been posted. Willamette's home page is available here.
Washington State is the only D1 team idle this weekend, after a strong showing at the Gans Creek Classic in Missouri last week.
