NEW ORLEANS--
Fresh off impressive performances by both Western Washington cross country squads, the Viking men's (photo courtesy WWU Athletics) and women's teams moved up in the latest USTFCCCA Division II national coaches poll released Wednesday.

After a third place finish at Saturday's Lewis Crossover in Romeoville, Illinois, where they placed four runners in the top 30, the voters recognized the Vikings by ranking them ninth in the country, moving up five spots from the last poll.

Northwest Nazarene dropped one spot in this week's national poll, coming in at number 19.

Fellow GNAC member Alaska Anchorage entered the national top 30 for the first time this season, with the pollsters voting them in at number 20.

The national top five are in order: Colorado School of Mines, Wingate, Adams State, Grand Valley State, and Lee (Tennessee).

Both Western Washington and Alaska Anchorage entered the national top 30 for the first time this season.

Western, which finished sixth at Lewis, was voted as the nation's number 21 team, while Alaska Anchorage, which was ninth at Lewis, enters the national poll at number 28.

There was no change in the top five, as Colorado School of Mines, Grand Valley State, West Texas A&M, Adams State, and Cedarville stayed in the same order as the previous national poll.
