Husky alum Amina Maatoug sets personal best in 5000m in Liege...


LIEGE, Belgium--
Washington alum Amina Maatoug (#16/Paul Merca photo) set a personal best in a third place finish at the Meeting International d'Athlétisme de la Province de Liège Wednesday night.

Maatoug, who raced last Friday at the Morton Games in Dublin over 1500 meters, finished with a time of 15:07.49, as Shito Gumi of Ethiopia won in 14:49.66.

Maatoug, who competed for The Netherlands in the 1500m at last year's world championships in Tokyo, eclipsed her previous personal best of 15:17.04 set in May in Brussels.

In the same race, Washington's Julia David-Smith was 14th in 15:41.77.

Meanwhile, Washington grad Reuben Reina, Jr set a new personal best in the 1500, as the NCAA finalist in that event ran 3:36.15 in a fifth place finish.

Former Oklahoma State All-American Fouad Messaouidi of Morocco won the race in 3:34.41.

The Belgian tour continues for Reina, along with Mia Cochran, Thomas Diamond, and Tyler Bilyard on Saturday as they compete at the Night of Athletics in Heusden.
