Sunday's USATF Golden Games and Distance Open at Hilmer Lodge Stadium (photo courtesy Mt. San Antonio College) on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California will showcase the country's deepest pro field as we approach six weeks to go before the start of the US Olympic Track & Field Trials that begins on June 18th at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
The USATF Golden Games presented by Xfinity will be broadcast live on Sunday, May 9, 1:30pm - 3:00 p.m. PT on NBC (KING 5 in Seattle) and Peacock Premium. In addition, USATF.TV+ ($) will also webcast live coverage of the USATF Golden Games competition leading into the TV window from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. PT and the USATF Golden Games Distance Open starting at 7:00 p.m. PT.
A number of athletes with Washington ties are entered in Sunday's meet.
World championships competitors Josh Kerr and Brannon Kidder are both entered in the men's 800, while Washington volunteer coach Sam Prakel along with Henry Wynne & Izaic Yorks of the Brooks Beasts are entered in the mens 1500. Seattle resident Adam Visokay is entered in the steeplechase.
Camas native Alexa Efraimson and Olympia's Brooke Feldmeier are entered in the women's 800, and Washington volunteer assistant Alli Cash is in the 1500 and the 5000.
Washington alum Gianna Woodruff, who is the current world leader in the 400 hurdles, is entered in her specialty, while former Pullman resident Katie Nageotte is entered in the pole vault.
Washington alum Mel Lawrence and Pasco HS alum Marisa Howard, who missed the Olympic Games standard last week in Leavenworth, Kansas, are entered in the 3000 steeplechase.
Of course, the casual sports fan tuning into Sunday's meet will be intrigued by the entry of Seattle Seahawks' wide receiver DK Metcalf in the 100 meter dash against a field that includes world championships 4x100 relay team member Mike Rodgers, and Oregon alums Cravon Gillespie and Kyree King, all three of whom have broken 10 seconds.
The men's 100 meter preliminary heats will be run at 12:32 pm and 12:40 pm before the NBC television window starts. Should he make the finals, that will be run at 2:03 pm.
The accepted entries are available here, while the time schedule and the link to live results are available here.
