Hana Moll & Dash Sirmon off to Costa Rica for NACAC U-23 championships...

Incoming University of Washington freshman Hana Moll (Paul Merca photo) along with Walla Walla native Dash Sirmon of the University of Nebraska, are among the members of USA Track & Field's team competing at the NACAC Under 23 Track & Field Championships at Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica starting Friday the 21st through Sunday the 23rd.

For Moll, who finished third in the women's pole vault at the Toyota USATF championships in Eugene two weeks ago with a national high school record leap of 15-1.5 (4.61m), the NACAC U-23 meet represents a huge opportunity to pick up bonus points that could secure her spot on the plane to Budapest for the world championships that begin next month.

Currently, Moll,  the Washington 3A champ from Olympia's Capital HS, is inside the world rankings quota in the pole vault, ranked number 27. As long as she stays inside the top 36 by the time the qualifying period ends on July 30, she will go to the world championships in Budapest.

The women's pole vault at the NACAC U-23s will be contested Friday at 8 am local time (7 am Seattle time).

Sirmon makes the trip to Costa Rica by virtue of winning the men's javelin at the USATF Under-20 championships with a throw of 232-6 (70.87m), bouncing back from a 13th place finish in the NCAA championships in Austin, where he threw 230-4 (70.20m).

The men's javelin goes on Saturday, also at 8 am local time (7 am Seattle time).
