Markovc & Kerr officially named to British team for world championships in Budapest...

BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom--
As expected, both Washington alum Amy-Eloise Markovc (Paul Merca photo) and Josh Kerr of the Brooks Beasts were officially named to the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team that will compete at the World Athletics Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Budapest, Hungary beginning August 19th.

Markovc, currently ranked number 21 in the world in the 5000, finished second in the British championships behind Jessica Judd, running 15:58.87. Judd will run the 10000 at worlds.

The Washington alum and multi-time state champion at Glacier Peak HS in Snohomish ran under the world championship standard of 14:57.00 in the 5000 meters at last year's Commonwealth Games, where she ran 14:56.60.

She has a season best time in the 5000 of 15:28.66, set in Nice, France on June 17th.

Kerr, the Olympic bronze medalist in the 1500 in Tokyo two years ago, was picked by UK Athletics as its discretionary selection to the team, as he ran the 800 at the national championships three weeks ago, where he finished fifth in 1:46.35.

The New Mexico alum, who is currently ranked number 7 in the world, has a season best of 3:29.64, set in Lausanne, Switzerland on June 30th, one day before the Olympic Games qualifying window opened.

Kyle Langford of the Brooks Beasts was not selected despite owning the qualifying standard of 1:44.49, set last August in Rovereto, Italy. Langford didn't qualify for the finals at the national championships, and since the nationals, three runners all dipped under the standard, with all three earning selection.
