Isaiah Harris of Brooks Beasts runs fastest 800m time in two years at UA Sunset Tour...

Isaiah Harris (Paul Merca photo) of the Brooks Beasts came close in his quest to lock up his spot on the US world championship team with a qualifying time at the Under Armour Sunset Tour meet Saturday night at Jack Kemp Stadium on the campus of Occidental College.

After the pacer took the field through the first 400 in 49.96, it was essentially Harris against the clock, as Charles Jones was the only one to go with Harris.

Harris ran the rest of the way by himself, crossing the line in 1:44.85, just .15 seconds away from the qualifying standard of 1:44.70 for next month's world championships in Budapest, and his fastest time in over two years.

With the Under Armour Sunset Tour meet a World Athletics category C meet, Harris picks up 1178 points for the win, plus 60 bonus points. It appears that he will move up marginally in the world rankings in the 800, but his rankings is well under the 56 athletes needed to fill the field in Budapest next month.

His teammate Devin Dixon finished eighth in 1:46.51.

One of the biggest surprises of the evening came from Allie Buchalski of the Beasts, who dropped down in distance and finished second in the women's 1500. The Furman graduate ran a personal best of 4:05.53, down from her previous best of 4:06.19, set two years ago.

Teammate Marta Pen Freitas, who is looking to secure her position in the 1500 for next month's world championships for Portugal, finished seventh in 4:09.18. Her time plus 27 bonus points for finishing seventh appear to move her up in the rankings quota marginally, pending the outcome of other meets this weekend.

Pen Freitas will have an opportunity to improve her score at next weekend's Portuguese national championships in Braga.

Henry Wynne of the Beasts finished second in the men's 1500, running 3:34.55, as Eric Holt took the win in 3:34.50. Johnny Gregorek, who trains under UW coach Andy Powell was fourth in 3:35.28, while Dillon Maggard of the Beasts was sixth in 3:36.18.

Washington alum Kayley DeLay of the Brooks Beasts set a personal best in the 5000 meters, as she ran 15:33.76 to finish fifth. Haley Herberg of the Huskies was 13th in 16:11.63.

In the women's 800, Laurie Barton of the Beasts was seventh in 2:01.89.

The men's 5000 saw Seattle's Tom Anderson finish tenth in 14:04.11.

WALLA WALLA NATIVE DASH SIRMON TAKES SECOND IN JAVELIN AT NACAC U-23S...

In San Jose, Costa Rica, Walla Walla native Dash Sirmon of the University of Nebraska finished second in the men's javelin Saturday morning at the NACAC Under-23 Championships.

Sirmon, the Walla Walla HS grad who won the USATF U20 championship a few weeks ago, threw a best of 247-0 (75.28m), as Keyshawn Strachan of the Bahamas took the win with a toss of 257-1 (78.37m).

Sirmon's mark was just short of his personal best of 247-2 (75.35m) set at the Big Ten championships in May.
