Katie Moon finishes second at London Athletics Meet Sunday...

LONDON--
Former Pullman resident Katie Moon (Paul Merca photo) suffered her second loss in a Wanda Diamond League pole vault competition Sunday at the London Athletics Meet at London Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Moon, the reigning world and Olympic champion, cleared a best of 15-9 (4.80m), the same height as winner Wilma Murto of Finland.

Murto got the win with a second attempt clearance, while Moon, who was leading going into that height, needed three attempts to continue the competition.

Both missed all three attempts at 15-1.25 (4.86m) to give the Finn the win.

In the men's 1500, former Washington Husky Sam Tanner finished tenth in a very competitive race, running 3:31.60, as Notre Dame alum and American record holder Yared Nuguse won in 3:30.44.

Washington alum Gianna Woodruff went out fast, but faded over the final few hurdles in the women's 400 hurdles, finishing eighth in 55.62.

Femke Bol of the Netherlands won decisively in a European record and world leading time of 51.45.

In the men's domestic 800 meters, Max Burgin (1:43.85) and Ben Pattison (1:44.02) both went under the world championship standard of 1:44.70, which endangers the possible spot on the British team of Kyle Langford of the Brooks Beasts. Langford, who has raced sparingly this season, was originally entered in the race and owned the standard. It now comes to a decision by the British Athletics selection committee on whether or not Langford goes to Budapest.

The Wanda Diamond League goes into hiatus for this coming weekend's national championship window, and the world championships that begin on August 19th in Budapest.

The next Diamond League meet is the ZĂĽrich Weltklasse meeting on August 31st.
