Viking men in USTFCCCA national top 25 for second straight week...

NEW ORLEANS--
For the second straight week, the Western Washington men's track and field team finds itself among the nation's top 25 teams in the latest USTFCCCA Division II national rating index, released Tuesday.

The Vikings moved up from number 19 in the initial rating index, thanks in part to three top-20 marks in the 5000 meters from Kevin McDermott (number 8/WWU Athletics photo), George Karamitsos, and Andrew Oslin, who ran 14:11.90, 14:17.33, and 14:22.73 Friday at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco.

McDermott's time was the second fastest in school history, and the seventh fastest time in Great Northwest Athletic Conference history.  That accomplishment earned McDermott the GNAC men's track athlete of the week.

The nation's top five men's teams are in order: Grand Valley State, Pittsburg State, West Texas A&M, Missouri Southern, and Azusa Pacific.

The Vikings are the only team in the GNAC in the national top 25.

On the women's side, Simon Fraser at number 17 is the lone team from the GNAC in the national top 25.

The top five women's teams are in order: Grand Valley State, West Texas A&M, Azusa Pacific, Academy of Art, and Pittsburg State.

Western Washington heads north of the border to compete at the Emilie Mondor Invitational in Burnaby, BC, hosted by Simon Fraser University on Saturday.
