WEEKEND WRAPUP: Gonzaga's Yacine Guermali sets school record in 1500m at Payton Jordan...


Here's the wrap-up of another busy weekend as the clock ticks to the various collegiate conference championships happening the second weekend in May:

PAYTON JORDAN INVITATIONAL

At the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford University at Cobb Track & Angell Field, Gonzaga's Yacine Guermali (Gonzaga Athletics photo) improved his program record in the men's 1500 with a 3:42.96 personal best, and Smith (3:43.82) PR'd for the second straight week to move up to second on the all-time list. Guermali closed out strong with a 57.98 split in his final 400m to finish fourth overall, with Smith just behind in fifth.

In the second section of the women's 1500, Washington's Anna Gibson led a 1-2-3 Husky finish in their season opener at that distance.

Gibson ran 4:16.94 to lead teammates Sophie O'Sullivan (4:16.46) and Madison Heisterman (4:18.04) across the line.

Gonzaga's Sadie Tuckwood was seventh in the heat in 4:23.15.

In the top section of the women's 1500, Seattle resident Rebecca Mehra returned to her alma mater, finishing fifth in 4:14.13.

Carley Thomas of Washington made her outdoor season debut at 800 meters, running 2:04.20 to take second in the top section.


CWU WILDCAT OPEN

In Ellensburg, host Central Washington took eleven wins, including all four relay races at the Central Washington University Wildcat Open contested Saturday at the CWU Recreation Sports Complex.

The Wildcats' NCAA indoor qualifiers Lauryn Chandler and E'Lexis Hollis led the way for Central, with Chandler running 14.24 in the 100 hurdles, and Hollis winning the 100 dash in 12.04.

The best marks of the day came from Bellingham native and Idaho alum Ben Doucette of Cascadia Elite, who won the 110 hurdles in 13.98, and from Eastern Washington's Ryan Rieckmann in the men's javelin, as he threw 216-3 (65.93m).

NCAA Division II provisional marks were achieved by Central Washington's Branden Wise in the javelin, as he threw 193-8 (59.03m), and by Seattle Pacific's Emily Thomason in the pole vault, as she cleared 12-4 (3.76m) to win the event.


OREGON RELAYS

In Eugene, University of Oregon alum Johnny Gregorek, who trains under UW head coach Andy Powell, won the pro section of the men's mile Saturday night at the Oregon Relays high school invitational contested at Hayward Field.

Gregokek ran 3:58.44 to take the victory from UW alum Kieran Lumb, who finished second in 3:58.68.

Isaiah Harris of the Brooks Beasts was fifth at 4:02.10, just ahead of training partner David Timlin, who ran 4:04.75, while Tacoma native and Oregon alum Jack Yearian was eighth in 4:06.20.

In the women's pro mile, Laurie Barton of the Brooks Beasts finished second in 4:35.88, as Jenn Randall of Cascadia Elite won in 4:33.84.

UW volunteer coach Alli Cash was third in 4:36.33, while Nia Akins of the Brooks Beasts was fourth in 4:42.49.
