Ida Eikeng blasts past 6000 to 6100 points thanks to strong javelin throw at Mt. SAC multis...

WALNUT, California--
Thanks to a big throw in the javelin, Washington's Ida Eikeng (Paul Merca photo) broke her school record score of 5939 points, and blew past the 6000 point barrier, scoring 6100 points to finish second in the elite section of the Mt. SAC Relays heptathlon Thursday.

Competing under cloudy conditions at Hilmer Lodge Stadium, Eikeng, who started the day in fourth place, jumped 19-4 (5.89m) in the long jump.

The Norwegian started the javelin with a first round throw of 153-3 (46.71m), then let fly in the next round, as the spear traveled 171-6 (52.29m), a personal best, eclipsing her previous best of 171-1 (52.16m) set at the 2021 Ken Shannon meet at Husky Track (she has a listed personal best on her World Athletics and TFRRS profile of 182-3/55.56m, but the school does not recognize the mark due to a questionable measurement of the mark at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina last year) to win the event and take a 5430-5296 lead over USC's Allie Jones entering the 800 meters.

Eikeng, whose weakest event in the multis is the 800, finished tenth in the 800 in 2:31.82, as Jones won the 800 in 2:13.03 to finish with a final score of 6217 to Eikeng's 6100.

In the collegiate section of the decathlon, Washington's Jami Schlueter finished second with a personal best score of 7427 points, while teammate Ollie Thorner was seventh with a two-day total of 6757 points.

Washington State's Lee Walburn rallied from eleventh place at the break to finish third with 7263 points, just short of the personal best score of 7323 he set a few weeks ago at the Texas Relays.

Schlueter won the 110 hurdles in 14.64, while Thorner was ninth at 15.46, and Walburn was tenth in 15.54.

In the discus, Walburn finished third with a throw of 139-5 (42.51m), with Thorner fourth at 128-6 (39.18m) and Schlueter fifth at 125-8 (38.31m).

Disaster struck Thorner, a strong vaulter, as he failed to clear his opening height of 15-1 (4.60m).

Meanwhile, Walburn won the pole vault at a personal best of 15-9 (4.80m) with a clutch third attempt clearance at that height as well as the previous height of 15-5 (4.70m).

Schlueter tied for fourth with a clearance of 14-5.25 (4.40m).

Schlueter set a personal best in the javelin at 168-1 (51.25m), as did Walburn, who threw 189-0 (57.61m). Thorner threw 175-6 (53.50m).

Thorner won the 1500 in a personal best 4:18.73, while Walburn ran 4:40.95, and Schlueter finished the day in 4:42.62.

Arkansas' Marcus Weaver won the collegiate section of the decathlon with a final score of 7549 points.
