Both Husky squads remain in the national top 20 in latest USTFCCCA rating index...
NEW ORLEANS--The University of Washington men's track & field team maintained its number 11 position in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Rating Index released Monday.
With many of the nation's top teams either taking the week off or running partial squads in meets around the country last weekend, there were not too many changes within the national top 25.
With the Huskies running a few select members of its middle and long distance squad last weekend, the only national mark in the top ten came from steeplechaser Ed Trippas (UW Athletics photo). Trippas, the Tokyo Olympian and world championships competitor in that event for Australia, broke the 36 year old UW school record of 8:32.27 in the event, when he ran 8:31.40 to win Friday night at the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford.
That mark is currently the third fastest time so far this season in NCAA Division I, but is short of his personal best of 8:19.60, set in the 2021 season while competing at Princeton.
The nation's top five men's teams are in order: Arkansas, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Alabama, and LSU.
Pac-12 teams in the top 25 include number 15 Stanford, number 19 USC, number 20 California, and number 24 Arizona.
The Husky women dropped four spots down to number 19 in this week's rating index.
The only Husky to record a significant mark contributing to its rating index was Carley Thomas. The reigning Pac-12 800 meter champion opened up her outdoor campaign at that distance by running 2:04.20 Saturday at Stanford.
The nation's top five women's teams are in order: Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Oregon, and LSU.
Pac-12 teams in the top 25 include number 6 USC, number 12 Stanford, and number 23 Utah.
The Huskies will split their team between three meets this weekend, going to the Fresno State Invitational in Fresno, the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, and an appearance for the first time since 2009 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, where they will run a men's team in the 4 x mile, and the 4 x 800, and a women's team in the 4 x 800 and 4 x 1500.
The Huskies have never won a Penn Relays championship wheel at the oldest relay meet in the country.
CJ ALLEN WINS 400 HURDLES AT GEORGIA TECH INVITATIONAL...
At the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Washington State alum CJ Allen opened his outdoor campaign by winning the 400 hurdles, running 48.71.
It's currently the fourth fastest time in the world so far this season.
He along with Washington alum Gianna Woodruff are both scheduled to compete this weekend at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
