Kerr, Tanner & Woodruff to take shot at Lausanne Diamond League meet Friday...

A trio of runners with Washington ties are set to go as the Wanda Diamond League begins to wind down with the final three meets of the season, starting Friday night in Lausanne, Switzerland with the Athletissima meeting.

After opting out of the European Championships due to a sub par performance at the Commonwealth Games partly due to not recovering fully from the effects of Covid-19 after the world championships, Josh Kerr (Paul Merca photo) of the Brooks Beasts returns to action in the 1500 meters.

Kerr will face a field that includes Olympic silver medalist Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Spain's Mario Garcia, who finished fourth ahead of Kerr at world championships, Commonwealth Games champ Ollie Hoare of Australia, and former Husky Sam Tanner of New Zealand, who set his personal best at the Commonwealth Games.

Washington alum Gianna Woodruff, who stands eighth going into the Lausanne meet with 10 Diamond League points, is entered in the 400 hurdles, as she goes against a field that includes a number of world championships finalists, including Femke Bol of The Netherlands, fresh off a 400m/400 hurdles double gold at the European Championships.

For all three athletes, this will be the final meet that they can run their specialty before the Diamond League finals on September 7-8 at the Weltklasse meet in Zurich.

NBC's PeacockTV service will offer live streaming of the Athletissima meet starting at 11:00 am, Pacific time Friday.

NEWS & NOTES

Former Pullman resident and Tokyo Olympic pole vault champ Katie Nageotte elected to end her season after winning the world championships due to a combination of issues with her Achilles tendons, and emotional struggles dealing with "post-Olympic hangover".
