World championship silver medalist Kara Winger throws in Silesia Diamond League meet Saturday...


After a break for the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, the Wanda Diamond League returns to action Saturday morning in Silesia, Poland for the running of the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial meeting.

The Skolimowska meet replaces the two meets originally scheduled for Shanghai and Shenzhen, China due to foreign travel restrictions caused by Covid 19 by the Chinese government.

Vancouver native Kara Winger (Paul Merca photo), who won the silver medal in the javelin at the world championships in Eugene, competes in her first Wanda Diamond League meet of the season after spending the season throwing in the United States and Canada.

Winger faces a field that includes Eugene third place finisher Haruka Kitaguchi of Japan, and former Olympic champion Barbora Špotáková of the Czech Republic.

Washington State alum CJ Allen, who is currently in eighth place in the Wanda Diamond League standings in the 400 hurdles, is entered in his specialty, where he'll go against Alison dos Santos of Brazil, the reigning world champion and current Diamond League points leader in the event.

Olympia's Brooke Feldmeier is entered in the women's 800, where she'll face fellow Americans Raevyn Rogers and Ajee Wilson, both of whom made the finals in the 800 at the Eugene world championships.

In Cali, Colombia, Seattle Prep's Will (Tyler) Floyd anchored Canada to a second place finish in the heats of the men's 4 x 400 relay at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships Friday.

The Canadians ran 3:08.35 to finish behind the Unites States, which ran 3:07.82.

Canada advances to the finals on Saturday at 5:43 pm local time (3:43 pm in Seattle) to conclude the world under-20 championships.


In Raleigh, North Carolina, Washington alum Eleanor Fulton finished second to Nikki Hiltz at the Sir Walter Miler race Friday night.

Fulton ran a personal best 4:23.65 to finish behind Hiltz' 4:21.89.

In the men's race, Washington State alum Paul Ryan finished eighth in 3:56.49, while UW volunteer coach Sam Prakel was ninth in 3:56.59.

Notre Dame's Tokyo Olympian Yared Nuguse won the race in a meet record 3:53.34.
