Both Washington squads head to Austin ranked in the top ten in USTFCCCA pre-champs index...
NEW ORLEANS--With the completion of the NCAA regional first round meets in Jacksonville and Sacramento over the weekend, the Washington men's team heads into next week's NCAA championship meet ranked number eight in the NCAA Pre-Championships Division I National Rating Index as compiled by the USTFCCCA.
New marks from last weekend included Nathan Green's (Paul Merca photo) 3:38.13 in the 1500 that won the regionals, ranking him number 8; Ed Trippas' school record 8:31.36 in the steeplechase, which puts him number 7 nationally; and Jayden White's toss of 227-5 (69.31m) in the hammer, which ranks him number 15.
Bolstered by Sophie O'Sullivan's collegiate leading performance at the regionals in Sacramento where she ran a school record 4:08.06 to win the 1500 in the 11th fastest time by a collegian, the Washington women head to nationals ranked number ten.
Yale transfer Kayley DeLay also set a new mark at regionals, improving her season best in the steeplechase to 9:45.72, placing her tenth heading to Austin.
Washington is tied with Texas Tech and LSU for the second most competitors on the men's side behind only Arkansas (18), advancing thirteen entries from Sacramento, while the Husky women advance seven athletes to Texas.
The nation's top five men's teams are in order: Arkansas, Texas Tech, Georgia, Florida and LSU.
Pac-12 teams ranked in the top 25 include number 7 Stanford, number 11 Arizona State, number 15 USC, and number 18 Arizona
The top five women's teams are in order: Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Oregon, and USC.
Teams from the Pac-12 who are in the top 25 include number 14 Utah, number 21 UCLA, and number 25 Stanford.
The rankings reflect only the marks of athletes advancing to the national finals in Austin, and do not count marks in secondary event (i.e., if a runner qualified for nationals in the 5000 and not the 10000, their 10000 mark is not used for ranking purposes).
The NCAA championships are June 7th-10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
