Western's GNAC steeplechase champ Ila Davis leads state's NCAA D2 championship qualifiers...


INDIANAPOLIS--
Western Washington steeplechaser Ila Davis (WWU Athletics photo) leads the list of qualifiers from the state's four NCAA Division II schools to the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships, as announced by the NCAA Tuesday afternoon.

The NCAA Division II track and field championships will be contested May 25-27th at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado.

Davis, who has the seventh fastest time in the NCAA D2 ranks at 10:21.10, is coming off an outstanding performance at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference meet over the weekend in Monmouth, Oregon, where she won both the steeple in 10:41.34 and the 5000 in 18:12.34 to help Western Washington upset host Western Oregon for the GNAC crown.

Also earning a spot to the NCAA championships for the Viking women is Marian Ledesma, who is ranked number 14 in the 800m after scratches at 2:08.98.

On the men's side, the GNAC champion Vikings will have Jeret Gillingham in the steeplechase, and Drew Weber in both the 800 and 1500. Gillingham, the GNAC champ is ranked 11th at 8:55.62.

Weber, who was second at the conference in the 1500m, is tied at number 14 in that event at 3:44.83, and number 17 in the 800 at 1:49.34.

Seattle Pacific's entry is GNAC triple jump champ David Njeri. He goes into the meet ranked number 15 at 49-7.25 (15.12m).

Central Washington's two qualifiers are E'Lexis Hollis in the 100 meters, who is ranked number 19 at 11.54, and GNAC 100 hurdles champion Lauryn Chandler, who is ranked number 20 at 13.90.
