Huskies lead the way with 41 entries to NCAA First Round in Sacramento next week...
INDIANAPOLIS--The NCAA announced the list of accepted entries to next week's NCAA West First Round meet in Sacramento, which will be contested at Hornet Stadium on the campus of Sacramento State University Wednesday May 24th to Saturday May 27th.
Pac-12 men's champion Washington leads the way with 19 entries, while Washington State has ten entries.
Eastern Washington has three entries into the first round, while Gonzaga has seven entries.
On the women's side, Washington leads the way with 22 entries, while Washington State has eight individual entries and a 4 x 100 meter relay team.
Gonzaga has four entries, while Eastern Washington's two women's entries are pole vaulters Hally Ruff and Savannah Schultz.
Seattle University, coming off a pair of last place finishes in the Western Athletic Conference championship, again failed to qualify an athlete for the first round.
The top twelve places in each event advance to the nationals in Austin, Texas.
As one of the top 24 combined events athletes in the country, Ollie Thorner (Paul Merca photo) and Ida Eikeng advanced to the NCAA championships in Austin, Texas in three weeks. Eikeng, the school record holder in the heptathlon, makes her third straight NCAA championship appearance, while Pac-12 decathlon champ Thorner competes in his second NCAA decathlon.
Notables advancing to the West Regionals with Washington ties include Taylor Roe of Lake Stevens & Oklahoma State in the 5000; Kenneth Rooks of BYU & Walla Walla in the steeplechase; Ashton Riner of BYU & Connell in the javelin; and Jonas Price of Oklahoma State from Yakima in the steeplechase.
Olivia Markezich from Woodinville & Notre Dame is the top seed in the steeplechase in the East Region.
