Washington men maintain number 10 spot in latest USTFCCCA D1 ranking index...
NEW ORLEANS--Going into this weekend's Pac-12 track and field championships, the Washington men's team remained in the number ten position after the release Monday afternoon by the USTFCCCA of its weekly NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index.
Both Washington squads were off last week, with the exception of Brian Fay (Paul Merca photo), who competed in the 1500 meters at the On Track Fest in Walnut, California Saturday night against a predominantly pro field.
Fay ran 3:38.39 to finish sixth. However, for the purposes of the USTFCCCA's rating index, the mark does not count, as the On Track Fest did not have any field events contested to meet the NCAA's definition of a counting outdoor meet, which is seven track events, and four field events.
This also affected Walla Walla native Kenneth Rooks of eighth-ranked BYU's world leading mark in the steeplechase of 8:17.62, as well as those of the collegians who ran in the meet.
The nation's top five men's teams are in order: Arkansas, Texas Tech, Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee.
Other teams from the Pac-12 ranked in the national top 25 include number 13 Arizona State, number 17 Stanford, number 19 USC, number 20 California, and number 25 Arizona.
On the women's side, the Huskies dropped one spot to number 24.
The nation's top five women's teams are in order: Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Oregon, and USC.
Other schools in the top 25 from the Pac-12 include number 14 Utah, number 15 Oregon State, and number 17 Stanford.
The Pac-12 championships begin Friday at Mt. San Antonio College's Hilmer Lodge Stadium, and goes until Sunday.
