NEW ORLEANS--Despite a top-ten performance by conference 800 meter champion Sam Ellis (Paul Merca photo), the Pac-12 champion Washington Huskies dropped one spot to 11th in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Rating Index.
Ellis' winning time of 1:46.77 puts him eighth in the NCAA D1 rankings.
Other top 25 performances over the weekend came from Pac-12 decathlon champ Ollie Thorner, whose score of 7661 points puts him number 13; discus thrower Elijah Mason, whose personal best toss of 202-8 (61.77m) is also number 13 in NCAA D1; pole vaulter Jacob Englar, who cleared 17-9.25 (5.42m) to put him number 22; and Pac-12 5000 and 10000 champ Brian Fay, who ran 28:24.90 to win the latter event.
The nation's top five teams after the conference championship weekend are, in order: Arkansas, Texas Tech, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.
Other Pac-12 teams ranked in the national top 25 include number 12 USC, number 16 Stanford, and number 21 Arizona State.
On the women's side, Washington, which finished a program best third in the Pac-12 championships that concluded Sunday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College, comes out of conference championship weekend ranked number 19, moving up five spots from last week.
Top 25 performances came from Ida Eikeng in the heptathlon, whose school record score of 6114 points is number 3 in NCAA Division I.
Carley Thomas's time of 2:02.40 in the 800 is the 12th fastest in D1 this season, and pole vaulter Sara Borton's clearance of 14-3.25 (4.35m) also makes her the number 12 performer in 2023.
Sophie O'Sullivan and Anna Gibson ran 4:12.19 and 4:12.65, which are the number 18 and 21 times over 1500 meters this season.

At the Atlantic Coast Conference championships in Raleigh, North Carolina, Woodinville's Olivia Markezich won the steeplechase title, running 9:40.65.
At the Big 12 Championships in Norman, Oklahoma, Jonas Price of Yakima, who competes for Oklahoma State, was third in the steeplechase, running 8:52.48. OSU teammate Taylor Roe of Lake Stevens was third in the women's 5000 in 16:12.09.
Former Husky Jonah Wilson, now competing for Nebraska, won the shot put at the Big Ten Championships in Bloomington, Indiana with a throw of 69-11.5 (21.32m).

With the West Coast Conference not sponsoring outdoor track, the Zags traveled to Portland over the weekend to run in the Portland Distance Carnival.
Ellie Armbruster broke the women's 800-meter program record at 2:10.13 to highlight the Zags' performances The Portland native placed fifth in the race but was the second collegiate finisher.
