CWU head coach Kevin Adkisson not retained after end of current school year...

CENTRALIA--
Central Washington University Director of Athletics Dennis Francois announced Tuesday that head cross country and track coach Kevin Adkisson (CWU Athletics photo) will not be retained after the current academic year.

Adkisson, a 1991 graduate of Willamette University, has been a fixture within Wildcat Athletics since he arrived in Ellensburg in the fall of 1991 as a graduate student and a volunteer coach.  He earned his master' degree in exercise science in 1993 and was hired as an assistant coach in the fall of 1993.  Adkisson took over the program in 1994 upon the departure of long-time head coach Spike Arlt.

Adkisson also oversaw 19 women's outdoor, 13 women's indoor, 23 men's outdoor, and seven men's indoor All-Americans as the head coach.

The men's indoor track team won the GNAC championship in 2007 and finished 29th in the nation in 2018, while the men's outdoor track team won the GNAC title in 2006 and 2007.

Central will have two athletes traveling to Pueblo, Colorado for next weekend's NCAA Division II championships in E'Lexis Hollis in the women's 100, and Lauryn Chandler in the 100 hurdles.

The school has a fairly new track facility, which according to a statement from Central Washington athletic director Dennis Francois, will help attract a pool of qualified candidates. Central is scheduled to host the 2024 GNAC outdoor track & field championships,

As of now, there are head coaching positions open at both Central and Western Washington, as Western's head coach Ben Stensland has the interim label through the end of the school year after long time head coach Pee Wee Halsell stepped down in December.
