WEEKEND WRAPUP: Woodruff runs season best in Bermuda; Markovc sets 10000 PR in London...

Apologies for the lack of posts over the last few days due to my involvement with the Tucson Elite and USATF Throws Festival meets and travel, which included an unexpected weather delay that necessitated an extra competition day.

Here's the wrap-up of what happened over the weekend:

On Sunday, Washington alum Gianna Woodruff (Paul Merca photo) of Panama finished sixth in the 400 hurdles at the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix meet in Devonshire, Bermuda.

Woodruff, a finalist at both the Olympics and world championships the last two years, ran a season best time of 56.00, as Andrenette Knight of Jamaica won in 54.90.

In Yokohama, Japan, Washington alum Izzi Batt-Doyle ran her second fastest time over 3000 meters, as she finished fourth in the Seiko Golden Grand Prix Sunday.

The Australian ran 8:53.81, as Teresiah Gateri of Kenya won in a meet record 8:43.81.

In London, Washington alum Amy-Eloise Markovc set a personal best in the 10000 at the Night of the 10000m PB's at the Parliament Hill Fields track Saturday night.

Markovc, who moved back to the United Kingdom after living in Virginia after graduating from the UW, ran 31:17.81 to eclipse her previous personal best of 31:25.57 set in this same meet last year.

The graduate of Glacier Peak HS in Snohomish was tenth in a race won by Mizan Adane of Ethiopia in 29:59.03.

In Tucson, Arizona, Washington State alum Brock Eager finished sixth in the hammer at the USATF Throws Festival at Drachman Stadium Saturday.

Eager, who competes for the Idaho based Iron Wood Track Club, threw a season best 247-1 (75.32m), as Olympian Rudy Winkler won with a world leading mark of 265-4 (80.88m).

Josh Syrotchen, who graduated from Lewis & Clark HS in Spokane before becoming an All-American at Division II Harding University, finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 201-5 (61.41m), as Alex Rose of Samoa won with a best of 222-2 (67.37m).

Two days before at the Tucson Elite meet, Eager threw his previous season best of 241-7 (73.63m) to finish seventh, as Diego Del Real of Mexico won at 251-7 (76.69m).

Syrotchen also finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 200-4 (61.08m), as Fedrick Dacres of Jamaica won with a best of 224-11 (68.57m).

Day one of the Tucson Elite was interrupted by rain and lightning, which necessitated a second day of competition to finish the meet on Friday.
