Both Husky squads move up one spot in USTFCCCA Pre-Regionals ranking index...

NEW ORLEANS--
With the NCAA First Round meets starting on Wednesday in Sacramento and Jacksonville, the USTFCCCA released its weekly Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index Monday.

The only changes to the rankings from last week's rankings are that athletes who were not declared or qualified for one of the two regional first round meets were removed from the computer generated rankings to give a true reflection on how teams are projected to fare in the national championship meet next month in Austin, Texas.

The UW men's team moved up one spot to number 10 going into the Sacramento regionals, with four runners ranked in the top ten in their events.

Leading the way is 5000 meter runner Brian Fay (Paul Merca photo), who holds the number one spot at 13:21.99 from the Bryan Clay meet last month.

Also in the top ten are reigning NCAA champ Joe Waskom in the 1500 at number 2, with his 3:35.86 from Bryan Clay; Ed Trippas in the steeple at number 3 with his 8:31.40 from the Payton Jordan meet at Stanford; and 400 meter hurdler Cass Elliott's 49.26 from the Desert Heat meet, which is number 7 in NCAA D1.

Heading into the regionals, the top five teams are in order: Arkansas, Texas Tech, Georgia, Florida, and Arkansas.

Pac-12 teams in the top 25 include number 12 USC, number 15 Stanford, and number 20 Arizona State.

On the women's side, Washington moved up one spot to number 18.

Pole vaulter Nastassja Campbell leads the way for the Dawgs at number 1 with her 14-11 (4.55m) clearance at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Heptathlete Ida Eikeng rates third after her second place score of 6114 points at the Pac-12s last week, while steeplechaser Kayley DeLay is ninth at 9:46.22 set at the Bryan Clay Invitational, and Carley Thomas is tenth with her 2:02.40 from last week's Pac-12s.

The nation's top five teams remain unchanged after the entries to the national championships were accepted: They are in order: Texas, Florida, Oregon, USC, and Arkansas.

Pac-12 teams in the top 25 include number 12 Stanford, and number 16 Utah.
